Freelancing: Dos don’ts and everything in between

By November 6, 2018Public

Please note that this event has been cancelled as although there is great interest in the subject, many members are unable to make this date.   All those who have RSVP’d have been contacted individually.  Watch out for details of a rescheduled event in 2019.

Thursday 22 November 18:30 – 21:00

The Apollo Room (upstairs), The Crown Tavern, 43 Clerkenwell Green, Clerkenwell, London, Greater London, EC1R 0EG

Join MJA vice-chair and freelance journalist Jane Symons, plus MJA committee members  award-winning freelance broadcaster Faye Kirkland and prolific freelancer and commissioning editor at the Daily Mail Lucy Elkins, for an informal discussion of freelance journalism and surviving in a competitive market. This is a great opportunity for those thinking of going freelance, to find out more about the pluses and perils of going it alone, and for established freelancers it’s a chance to swap notes on fees, financial challenges and survival tips.

The evening will start with a panel discussion and Q&A exploring some of the most common challenges and issues and how to perfect story pitches. There will be plenty of time for networking and to provide feedback on how best the MJA can help support freelance members. If you need to update your byline photo or need some headshots for a website,  for just £10, payable in advance you can book a slot with professional photographer Trevor Aston.

The event is free for MJA members and if you aren’t already a member and would like to attend, you can join now with a special £5 discount in order to attend.

Drinks and sharing platters of food will be provided.

To register for the event use this form, once you press submit you will be moved to a page where you can pay for your byline photo and/or apply for membership.
