Data protection

By May 25, 2018Public

As we all know from the deluge of emails over the past few days, the General Data Protection Regulations are now in force.

As membership organisation we obviously hold your data so we can contact you about your membership and send updates about MJA activities. We do not share your data with any third parties.

We have a policy of retainning data on lapsed members for two years in case they wish to rejoin. This way can simply reactivate the membership.

You can view our privacy policy here

What should you do?

We cannot give advice on what individual members should do to ensure they are complying with the new regulations, but the ICO has published Data protection and journalism: a quick guide and you can read the longer Media Guide here.

If you have a website or blog, or send out any sort of email newsletter or updates you may need to review what data you hold and how you use it.  Once again, a lot of information, including a self-assessment tool, is set out on the ICO website.
