The Award went to Patrick Strudwick for This is what it’s like to be dying of AIDS and then survive, which was published by Buzzfeed. The judges verdict was: “Original and brought the history of this disease alive to make it relevant to today.” Julie Powell and her colleagues from Good Housekeeping were highly commended for the GH guide to breast cancer by the women who know.
Novo Nordisk’s focus is on diabetes care, haemophilia care, growth hormone therapy and hormone replacement therapy.
The company was formed in 1989 when Nordisk merged with Novo Terapeutisk Laboratorium.
However their involvement with diabetes dates back to 1922 when one of the main discoverers of insulin, the Nobel laureate Frederick Banting, gave August Krough, a Nobel Prize-winning professor at the University of Copenhagen, and his wife Marie, a researcher in metabolic diseases, permission to produce insulin in Denmark.
Novo Nordisk has been on ongoing supporter of the MJA.
At the 2015 Summer Awards Novo Nordisk sponsored Best Freelance Journalist for a Specialist Audience, which was won by Jacqui Thornton.
Jacqui, former health editor of The Sun, Jacqui Thornton, proved her versatility by entering pieces for the Nursing Standard on Burkino Faso’s fight against malaria and vaccination in Tanzania and a Health Service Journal article on ebola.
At the 2015 Winter Awards Novo Nordisk sponsored Best Personal Story, which was won by Peter Doherty of thebma.org.uk for his piece What could be done for the baby wrapped in newspaper? Stephen Cull made the presentation on behalf of Novo Nordisk.

In 2016 Novo Nordisk sponsored Best Feature Story (written for a general audience) which was won by John Illman for The danger of a second opinion, published in the British Journalism Review.
